“I’m so sorry,” I mumble like a complete idiot, holding the empty cup of coffee while I stare at the large brown stain taking over the stranger’s white shirt.
“No worries,” he laughs, looking down at the stain and shrugging it off. “I’ve never quite liked this shirt,” he continues, his eyes locking into mine as he offers me a kind smile. The British twang in his words makes me hesitate before replying, so I just give him a moronic nod.
“I’m really sorry,” I repeat, not knowing what else to say. “I just ruined your shirt,” I continue, almost as if I was disregarding everything he told me.
“Seriously, it’s not a problem,” he replies in a smooth tone. Then, almost as if he’s afraid I’m going to keep on apologizing, he offers me another smile. “Tell you what…why don’t you buy me a cup of coffee to make up for the stain?”
Narrowing my eyes, I try to decode the meaning behind his words. I’m feeling so embarrassed right now that I can barely understand what he’s saying. To make it worse, he looks more handsome than should be admissible. I mean, a British guy with broad shoulders, piercing green eyes, and a smile that’d make the Queen herself blush?
“A cup of coffee. Right,” I nod. “I can do that.”
Five minutes later and we’re standing outside by the coffee cart, a glint in his eyes as he takes a sip out of his coffee cup. “Now this is some proper coffee,” he tells me. “Definitely makes up for the stain. I’d say we’re even now.”
I’m about to smile back at him when he continues to speak.
“Listen, I still haven’t seen the whole museum. Why don’t your tour the place with me?”
