“You can do this,” I tell myself, eyeing my reflection in the mirror.
It’s been a full day since my little spat with Ellie in Karen’s office, and I still haven’t gotten over the fact that I’m working in the same office building as the woman my boyfriend cheated on me with.
Not my lucky week, that’s for sure.
When the elevator doors finally slide open, I hold my head up high and stroll into the main offices. Ellie is nowhere in sight, which is just fine…even if just for today. Eventually, I know we’ll see each other again: even though Karen assigned her to another department, she still works here.
Heading straight to my desk, I try to stop thinking of Peter and her.
I need to focus on my job, not on them.
I’m starting to feel slightly pumped when, finally sitting on my chair, I notice there’s a yellow post-it note glued to my computer screen.
Frowning, I grab it.
Don’t think that you’ve won, the note reads. You’ve bought yourself a war.
The note’s unsigned, but I don’t need a name to know exactly who penned it: Ellie. She was furious over being reassigned, and now she won’t stop until she gets back at me.
Great, this week just keeps on getting better.
